This week's Featured Artist is someone that I have had the privilege of knowing for a very long time. We were absolute best friends growing up and danced every day together. Rachel grew up in Columbia, SC and now she resides in Paris as a Disney Cast Member. Check out her interview below to find out about her involvement in the arts!

I am so excited to be kicking off my Featured Artist Friday with one of my favorite artists in South Carolina, Ernest Lee AKA "The Chicken Man". I have owned his paintings for as long as I can remember, and I admire not only his work but his love for the arts.

    "Just like anybody else. There are ups and downs. I get to meet all types of people."

    "At the age of five... and I've been doing it now for 51 years. I've been drawing and painting since I was five. I'm 56 now. Ill be 57 in March...

Today I had the amazing opportunity to attend the Art's in Basic Curriculum Project's Peer-to-Peer Principal's Network where South Carolina's Superintendent of Education, Molly Spearman as well as Dr. Earl Franks from the National Association of Elementary School Principals spoke. 

Molly spoke about her love for the arts ever since she was in school. She went on to receive her B.A. in Music Education at Lander College. Molly was even a music teacher for 18 years! She talked about the importance of the arts programs in our schools and how they will help students prepare for college and beyond. This past Friday I had the opportunity to attend a performance of Big Fish The Musical at Town Theatre in Columbia, SC. I was a little hesitant going to this performance not knowing much about it. I was pleasantly surprised with how touching the story was. The music was beautiful and there was some wonderful talent on the stage. 

I can't wait to attend my next show at Town! The shows coming up are The Game's Afoot which runs March 2-18 and then Hairspray which runs May 11-26! Congratulations to the cast and the crew of Big Fish for a wonderful performance!
