Today I had the amazing opportunity to attend the Art's in Basic Curriculum Project's Peer-to-Peer Principal's Network where South Carolina's Superintendent of Education, Molly Spearman as well as Dr. Earl Franks from the National Association of Elementary School Principals spoke.

Molly spoke about her love for the arts ever since she was in school. She went on to receive her B.A. in Music Education at Lander College. Molly was even a music teacher for 18 years! She talked about the importance of the arts programs in our schools and how they will help students prepare for college and beyond. I even had a chance to talk with her after her presentation. I...

This past Friday I had the opportunity to attend a performance of Big Fish The Musical at Town Theatre in Columbia, SC. I was a little hesitant going to this performance not knowing much about it. I was pleasantly surprised with how touching the story was. The music was beautiful and there was some wonderful talent on the stage.

I can't wait to attend my next show at Town! The shows coming up are The Game's Afoot which runs March 2-18 and then Hairspray which runs May 11-26! Congratulations to the cast and the crew of Big Fish for a wonderful performance!

Today was a BIG day for the arts in South Carolina. The South Carolina Arts Alliance held an arts rally at the South Carolina State House as well as a Legislative Luncheon that was held at the Capital City Club. Today was just one day of SC Arts Advocacy Week.  The rally began with a performance by over 350 choral students that came from Richland District Two schools.

After the performance we headed into the state house to meet and greet the legislators and to encourage them to attend the luncheon. We handed out arts advocate buttons and bracelets as the legislators came through. It was a pleasure meeting so many other arts advocates and seeing some famil...

This past weekend I had the opportunity to attend the ballet Dracula: Ballet With a Bite at the Koger Center for the Performing Arts. This was the first time since I was little that I was able to see Columbia City Ballet's annual production. This is by far one of the most entertaining ballets out there. This production was so spooky but also kept the audience laughing at times. It was a wonderful night at the ballet and I can't wait to attend again next year.
